"The Importance of Healthcare and Sanitation"

Healthcare & Sanitation
Access to healthcare and sanitation is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of dignity, survival, and community well-being. For the extremely poor and marginalized, these basic needs are often out of reach, resulting in preventable suffering and loss. Our organization is dedicated to bridging this gap—saving lives, restoring health, and building healthier communities through targeted interventions that combine emergency relief with long-term preventive measures.

Mission and Core Principles

Our mission is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive the healthcare and sanitation support they need to live with dignity. We focus on:

  • Assisting the Extremely Poor: Prioritizing those who lack access to basic and emergency health services, including life-saving treatments and care for chronic illnesses.
  • Comprehensive Health Approach: Addressing both curative and preventive healthcare, including support for patients with socially stigmatized diseases such as HIV/AIDS and leprosy.
  • Strengthening Rural Health Infrastructure: Supporting rural health posts, training health assistants, and improving sanitation facilities.
  • Raising Public Awareness: Promoting health and hygiene education to empower communities to take charge of their well-being.

Key Areas of Intervention

aEmergency and Chronic Medical Assistance

  • Financial and logistical support for life-saving treatments for the very poor.
  • Assistance for terminally ill patients and those with no means for basic care.
  • Support for patients with diseases carrying social stigma, such as HIV/AIDS and leprosy.

bStrengthening Rural Health Services

  • Aid to health posts and clinics in remote, poor areas.
  • Support for training health assistants for deployment in underserved communities.

cSanitation and Hygiene Infrastructure

  • Construction of affordable, hygienic, gender-segregated toilets and clean drinking water facilities in rural locations.
  • Promotion of menstrual health and hygiene, especially for girls and women.

dPublic Awareness and Community Engagement

  • Incentives for journalists and writers to promote health and sanitation awareness.
  • Collaboration with local organizations to distribute sanitary products and promote healthy practices.

2024 Achievements and Impact

In 2024, our healthcare and sanitation initiatives made a tangible difference in the lives of many:

  • Critical Medical Support: We provided direct financial assistance for life-saving treatments, including heart surgeries, kidney dialysis, and cancer therapy, to individuals who had exhausted all other options.
  • Medical Equipment Donations: Essential medical equipment was donated to strengthen emergency and primary healthcare services, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Support for Stigmatized Illnesses: We maintained a special focus on patients with life-threatening and socially stigmatized illnesses, ensuring they received compassionate care.
  • Broad Reach: Our programs touched numerous individuals directly through treatment support and reached hundreds more through equipment and infrastructure support.

Examples of Activities (2023–2024)

To illustrate the impact of our work, here are some real examples from recent years:

  • COVID-19 Relief: During the pandemic, we contributed NPR 1,600,000 for a ventilator to Nepal Ventilator Service (NVS). This support played a crucial role in aiding thousands of patients across several hospitals.
  • Menstrual Health and Hygiene: In partnership with X-Pose Nepal, we supported the distribution of free sanitary pads to 300 females in Bara District, promoting menstrual hygiene and dignity.
  • Palliative Care Support: A significant grant of NPR 5,000,000 was provided to Hospice Nepal, supporting operational costs, infrastructure, and access to compassionate end-of-life care for cancer patients.
  • Individual Medical Support: We extended NPR 200,000 in financial aid to support the cancer treatment of Bishal Kumar Gautam in the United States.
  • Improving School Nutrition: Our contribution to Food for Life Nepal in 2023 enabled the provision of mid-day meals to 3,333 students across 26 community schools, improving attendance and nutrition.

Looking Ahead

Our commitment to expanding healthcare and sanitation access remains steadfast. By focusing on both immediate relief and long-term preventive measures, we aim to build healthier, more resilient communities. Through continued support, innovation, and partnership, we strive to ensure that no one is left behind and that every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy, dignified life.
